THE
WASHINGTON
TRIANGLE

The unknown is limitless.

About.

THE PHENOMENON: A disturbing statistical reality exists in America. An alarming number of people, particularly children, are going missing in our National Parks. No rational explanation exists for the rate of these disappearances, and there are other peculiar similarities among the cases that suggest a far darker mystery.

LOGLINE: An author convinced that a recent disappearance is part of a serial case, leads a search party into rural Washington where bizarre and nefarious forces lurk.

THE MARKET: To date, no feature films have explored this topic directly, although some very interesting and widespread media have dived deep into the available research or conducted their investigations. The majority of this media comes in the form of either books, documentaries, or podcasts.

STORY.

The Washington Triangle is the first in a trilogy of features set in rural Washington, in a land preserve known as the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. This forest sits at the base of a rather perfect triangle of mountains, which are three of the largest and most storied mountains in the continental United States: Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Adams.

Act One: Our story begins with the forming of a search party that will pick up the case of a recent disappearance, 8-year-old Thomas Clarke, which local law enforcement has had to abandon after yielding no leads. The new search party is led by Virgil Thompson, an author and an outdoorsman who has spent his career researching these cases. The other members of the team include Ryan Wallace, a tech-savvy photographer, Ryan’s assistant, Emma Green, Elijah Clarke, the missing boy’s uncle, and Gary Glen, a local hunting guide and handler of his bloodhound, Leia. They are quickly off into the wilderness atop ATVs, scouring the river where the boy disappeared and beginning their search among this vast landscape.

CONTINUED.

Act Two: Slowly, curiosity begins to give way to paranoia. Virgil is leading this team, but no one knows where to, or why. He seems to be fixated on the first stream they came to, which has led them straight uphill towards Mt. Adams. They suspect he knows more than he is letting on. Odd noises are coming from the forest. And they are being tracked by wolves. What’s more, they are beginning to learn about Virgil’s work, past cases, and all the bizarre and unnerving history within this field. Also, they begin to learn about this small town, and the dynamics afoot that raise new suspicions. Speculation hangs in the air like the fog that shrouds this region.

Act Three: Forgiveness is soon a prerequisite to survive, and as red herrings are exposed it seems some of the crazier postulations weren’t so crazy after all. An underground world is discovered, a duel world, one that is both ancient and futuristic. This is the world of our government’s most carefully kept secrets.

Tone.

THE MYSTERIOUS TONE:

In 1963 a cave leading to an underground city was discovered in Turkey, believed to be built nearly 3,000 years ago and capable of housing as many as 20,000 people. What terrifying threat could force so many people underground? And just as disturbing – what else could be lurking in the vast world beneath our feet? Just how much of our planet’s still hidden wild is yet to be discovered by us mere surface creatures?

Surely, far more than we could ever imagine. This is the abyss that our search party will hike out into. Driven by the perplexing and very real mystery of our National Parks. All are set in the whimsical playground that is the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Pure natural wonder will be what grabs our audience. And there will be many layers for them:

What has happened to young Thomas Clarke? What is behind this strange phenomenon in our National Parks? Just what does Virgil know? Why is he so drawn to this mountain? Are the Feds helping or obfuscating? What is that strange hum in the air? Are they seeing things? Are they going crazy? At what point do they give up on this missing child and turn back?

These mysteries are at the core of the audience’s experience. And they will resonate because our current world has never been so mysterious, nor downright bizarre. How many people in our own lives are metaphorically lost right now? None of us have all the answers. Each of us walks that line every day – that thin line between belief and doubt, between faith and fear.

WHY NOW?
Because the conspiracy cup hath runneth over. Never has our culture been so saturated, or polarized by conflicting views and opposing theories. Was COVID made in a lab? Was the election rigged? Are elites building underground bases? Is our food supply being sabotaged? Will the government ever tell us what they know about aliens? Are aliens even real? If someone were to make a list of all the wild theories you can overhear at the local pub, that list would be endless. Deep down we all can acknowledge on some level that our belief systems are tearing us apart. And that is what The Washington Triangle explores. In this mystical playground for our collective imagination. Why do we believe what we do? How far can our credulity be stretched?
At what point does an idea become crazy?
